The Honorable Robert L. Wilkins: Conversations on Race, Law, & History, Wednesday and Thursday, October 9-10, 2024

The Honorable Robert L. Wilkins, judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, participates in a roundtable discussion on October 9 and a public lecture on October 10 to talk about his remarkable life, career, and family history and reflect on the complicated meanings of liberty, justice, and equality in a country still reckoning with the legacy of slavery.  

The events are sponsored by UK Libraries, the J. David Rosenberg College of Law, the Commonwealth Institute for Black Studies, and the John G. Heyburn II Initiative for Excellence in the Federal Judiciary.

A Conversation with the Honorable Mary S. Scriven, Friday, February 23, 2024

United States District Court Judge Mary S. Scriven sits down with Benjamin J. Beaton, judge on the US Western District Court of Kentucky. Judge Scriven has served as judge on the US District Court of Middle Florida since 2008. Previously, she was appointed Magistrate Judge in 1997, becoming the first African American woman to serve on the federal court in the state of Florida and the second to serve on the federal court in the Eleventh Circuit, which includes Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

A U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, Thursday, September 28-29, 2023

The Panel convenes a hearing session to consider two cases: In Re: Moveit Customer Data Security Breach Litigation and In Re: Uber Technoligies, Inc., Passenger Sexual Assault Litigation. Also included are events in which Panel judges and staff interact with law students and faculty to share their experiences.

A Conversation with the Honorable Srikanth "Sri" Srinivasan, Friday, January 27, 2023

Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan sits down with Amul Thapar, judge on the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The event is part of a two-day Jurist in Residence program in which Chief Judge Srinivasan meets with small groups of law students – including students serving on the college’s two law journal boards, Moot Court Board; Trial Advocacy Board; and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Advisory Board – as well as UK Rosenberg College of Law faculty and invited guests from the legal community. In addition, Judge Srinivasan serves as a guest speaker in law school classes.

Keynote Speech by the Honorable Roger L. Gregory, November 19, 2019

Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory, US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, serves as the keynote speaker for the grand opening of the new building that houses the Rosenberg College of Law. The lecture is part of the Roy R. and Virginia F. Ray Distinguished Lecture Series in conjunction with the John G. Heyburn II Initiative for Excellence in the Federal Judiciary.

Phase I Orientation Seminar for Newly Appointed District Judges, October 22-26, 2018

The Rosenberg College of Law (RCOL) hosted the Federal Judicial Center's (FJC) orientation for 16 newly appointed federal judges from across the nation, marking the first time that the FJC held the week-long intensive training on a college campus. RCOL students and faculty also had the opportunity to engage with judges and other officials from the Federal Judiciary throughout the week via events such as classroom lectures, a luncheon panel discussion, and hallmark small-group interactions.

US Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch sat down with Paul Salamanca, the Wendell H. Ford Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky. The event began with a special introduction by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Justice Gorsuch also offered advice to UK law students in a small-group setting, advising them to give back to the community and practice law in a way that they will be proud to look back upon.

During this inaugural event sponsored by the Heyburn Initiative, Chief Justice John Roberts sat down with James Duff, director of the Administrative Office of the US Courts. The Chief Justice also engaged in small-group conversations with UK law students and faculty, guest-lectured in classes, and participated in hallmark Heyburn Initiative events.
