George Adams
Judge, District of Mississippi, 1836-1838
George Adams was a Kentucky state representative in 1810 and 1811, and again in 1814. Adams was born on August 1, 1784 in the Virginia settlement of Lynchburg. He later moved to Frankfort, the capital of the neighboring Commonwealth of Kentucky, where he read law and maintained a private practice from 1810 to 1825. In 1830, he was appointed United States Attorney for the District of Mississippi and served until January 12, 1836, when he received a nomination from President Andrew Jackson to the seat vacated by Judge Powhatan Ellis on the United States District Court for the District of Mississippi. The U. S. Senate confirmed Adams on January 20, 1836. When Congress divided the District of Mississippi into a Northern District and Southern District on June 18, 1838, Adams was reassigned to both districts. Shortly thereafter, Adams resigned his office and returned to private practice until his death in 1844.
