Shackelford Miller Jr.

Shackelford Miller Jr. served as a judge on the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit of Appeals from 1945 to 1965. Previously, he was a judge on the Western District Court of Kentucky. Miller was born on September 4, 1892 in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Princeton University in 1914 and received his bachelor of laws from Harvard Law School. In 1917, Miller joined the US Army and deployed to France as captain in the 25th Field Artillery Regiment. He returned to Louisville in 1919 and practiced law with his father and brother. In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt nominated Miller to be a judge for the Western District Court, to a seat was vacated by Judge Elwood Hamilton. He served on the court until 1945, when President Harry S. Truman nominated him to the Sixth Circuit, to a seat vacated by Judge Elwood Hamilton. Miller served in the position until he passed away on November 24, 1965.
