Eugene Edward Siler Jr.

Eugene Edward Siler Jr. is a senior judge for the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He was born in 1936 in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Siler received a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1958, a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1963, and a master's degree in law from Georgetown College Law Center in 1964. He also served as a US Navy midshipman in 1957 and as a US Naval Reserve lieutenant from 1958 to 1983. Following his education at the Georgetown College Law Center, Siler returned to Kentucky and settled into private practice in Williamsburg until 1970. During these years, he also served as a county attorney for Whitley County. In 1970, Siler was confirmed as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. After four years in office, President Gerald Ford nominated and the Senate confirmed him to serve as a "swing" judge for the Eastern and Western District Courts of Kentucky, to a seat vacated by Judge Mac Swinford. In 1991, President George H.W. Bush nominated Siler to serve as judge for the Sixth Circuit. The Senate confirmed his nomination on September 12, 1991. Ten years later, Judge Siler assumed senior status and continues to serve in that capacity.
