Steven S. Reed served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky from 1999-2001. He was the first African-American in the role in Kentucky history.
In this interview, Reed talks about growing up in Munfordville, Kentucky, the childhood influences that shaped his life, and how he came to choose law as a profession and UK College of Law as his law school.
Reed then shares memories of his federal clerkship with Judge Edward H. Johnstone and how the Judge approached his position. He also shares memories of seeing Nelson Mandela address the United States Congress and his later work in the administration of Governor Brereton Jones.
