Charles Ralph Simpson III
Senior Judge, Western District of Kentucky, 1986-
Charles Ralph Simpson III serves as a senior judge for the Western District of Kentucky. Simpson was born on July 8, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville in 1967 and a law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1970. Following law school, Simpson settled into private practice in Louisville until 1986. During these years, he also served as part-time staff counsel to Judge Executive Mitch McConnell (1978-1984), an alcohol beverage control administrator (1983-1984), and city clerk for Rolling Fields (1985-1986). In 1986, President Ronald Reagan nominated Simpson to serve as a judge for the Western District Court, to a seat vacated by Judge Charles M. Allen. The Senate confirmed his nomination on August 1, 1986. Simpson assumed senior status on February 1, 2013.
